  1. When the sludge passes through the filter plates, the discharge system and the filter medium ( filter cloth ) collect the solid particulates.
  2. The slurry is continually pressed into the system until all the water is squeezed out.
  3. The remaining solids form a filter cake between two plates and will be discharged by the dead weight.
